The MigForest Project has reached a new milestone in recent weeks with the receipt by our partners INBO (Belgium/Flanders) and FVA (Germany/Baden-Württemberg) of the first "assisted migration seeds".
INBO received a delivery of sessile oak (Quercus petraea) seeds, coming from Poland, as well as wild service tree (Sorbus torminalis) seeds, coming from Spain, Switzerland and Portugal. They were planted in INBO's greenhouses and will be used for future MigFoRests plantings in the next winters.
FVA received a collection of different silver fir (Abies alba) seeds, as well as pubescent oak (Quercus pubescens) acorns.
The silver fir seeds originate from Romania, Italy and Switzerland. They will be grown to be planted in the Schwäbich-Fränkisch Wald pilot territory.
The Quercus pubescens acorns will be used for growing rootstock for a MigFoRest seed orchard. They come from a seed producer in Austria,
and originate from Italy.
